Diving Playa Ancón

Playa Ancón is a small beach resort on Cuba's southern coast, just outside Trinidad. The area offers good recreational diving, although the underwater scenery is generally less spectacular than the walls and reefs of Bahía de Cochinos farther west.

The reefs around Playa Ancón consist of typical Caribbean coral formations with sponges, reef fish, and other marine life. The diving is easily combined with a visit to Trinidad, one of Cuba's most interesting historic towns, famous for its remarkably well-preserved colonial architecture.

If you are travelling through this part of Cuba, Playa Ancón therefore makes a convenient combination of diving and cultural sightseeing. I would not travel to Playa Ancón specifically for the diving, but it is certainly worth adding a few dives if Trinidad is part of your itinerary.

As with the other Cuban destinations described on ReefColors, this account reflects my experience during visits to Cuba and should not be taken as current information about the local dive operation or travel conditions.
